Lake Trout, where Williamsburg meets Baltimore….. 160 Havemeyer 718-782-FISH

Standard

I have heard a lot of hype recently about a Williamsburg restaurant that emulates a Baltimore theme. While stuck in traffic, why not take a detour through the Williamsburg Bridge instead of the Queensboro Bridge? I am from Baltimore originally and am quite excited to see what Williamsburg’s spin on my hometown of B-more will be….The menu is limited, very limited. The price point is very affordable. The decor really needs some help; a few photos of Baltimore sports people and “Highlandtown” and “Cherry Hill” spray painted on the wall are just not enough! We ordered the Cheese Fish Sandwich, The O’Malley Salad, and the Western Fries. They were good, I must admit. The true test would have been to order the Crab Cake, but my heart couldn’t do it…. There was no Old Bay (MAJOR strike). They did however have a sauce called “Mumbo”. As far as I know, that has nothing to do with Baltimore, but it was hot, spicy, and delicious! There were no Pink Flamingos, photos of Divine, or anything “Hon” related. The music was atrocious and quite offensive, but that doesn’t really matter. You can dine in ( 16 chair seating) or take out. I wouldn’t write the place off, give it a try for yourself (so long as you aren’t going out of your way to do so). My favorite was the bathroom door, pics ahead!

I had the extreme pleasure of experiencing Samos Greek Restaurant this week and I am so excited to share this divine dining experience with you! Samos has been a staple of Greek Town restaurants off of Eastern Avenue for over 35 years. In 1977, Nicholas Georgalas opened up Samos as a sandwich shop. It has since taken off to become a place that people line up just to get the chance to sample some of the wonderful delicacies. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The menu is typical Greek food, however, there is nothing typical about it. We ordered the appetizer of grilled octopus that made my tongue sing! It had capers, garlic, lemon, and herbs that made the octopus extraordinary! My dinner was shrimp skewers with grilled Haloumi cheese , salad and Greek rice, to die for! The menu pricing was very affordable and the BYOB option made this place a wonderful steal! Run, don’t walk!

Vino 905 S. Ann Street Fells Point, MD

Standard

Oh how Fells Point has changed over the years! I grew up in Baltimore and moved to NYC 18 years ago. My family and friends still reside in Baltimore, MD and I am always up for a visit and a good wine bar. My friend Debbie recommended Vino for an after dinner drink. It is located on the waterfront at 905 S. Ann Street and gives amazing views of the water and docking boats. The wine list has a great variety and nice pricing per glass or by the bottle. The menu also serves tapas. The store also has a large selection of wines by the bottle to take home. If you are lucky, Sarah will be your server, she is the best! Check it out!
